A Few Notes on the Tragedy

I am praying for whose lives were forever changed yesterday at Fort Hood. I feel truly heartbroken over what has happened. Even though I know none of those people, I can’t help but to think of how many families’ upcoming Thanksgivings and Christmases will be so drastically different from the ones they had planned.

And while my heart grieves it is also angry. You see, I’m praying for the terrorist who carried this cowardly act out. In fact, I’m praying the hardest for this Nadil Malik Hasan. However, not in the way you might think. I’m praying the exact same prayer King David prayed in Psalm 109. I know that’s not in line with the pansy, feel good “Christianity” some have tried to reduce the faith to, but at least I’m honest.

So my message to fellow Christians is grieve for the lost, the survivors, and the family members forever affected. And it’s okay to get angry and mad at the evil one who perpetrated this event! You’re not any less spiritual for feeling indignation. The difference, however, is when we get angry we don’t open fire on innocent people or strap explosives to ourselves.

Politically correct? No. True? You bet.

My Review of Vince Flynn's Latest

This review and more can be found at www.fowlerforfreedom.com.
When I was a kid, I loved reading fiction! It started with the Encyclopedia Brown series, and then the Hardy Boys, as well as the Three Investigators. But for some reason as an adult I turned away from fiction. I’m not sure why, but I began focusing my reading efforts on theology books, history books, and other inspirational. But, long story short,  besides the occasional Louis L’Amour novel, I just didn’t have time for fiction.

That changed, however, when I read Term Limits by Vince Flynn. I’m not sure why I picked up the book to begin with, but I was in the mood for a good story and seemed like it would fit the bill. It did! To this day it remains one of my favorite novels of all time (as well as does Flynn’s The Third Option). I quickly got my hands on everything Vince had written up to that point, and read through them. After finishing his series I began reading other authors, and now fiction is primarily what I prefer. And it’s all thanks to the wonderful writing of Mr. Flynn.

So, I was very excited when Extreme Measures was released in the Fall of 2008. I wanted to write a review upon finishing it, but decided to wait. The novel began a story that wasn’t completed until this year’s Pursuit of Honor. So much so that I didn’t feel as if it would be fair to review Measures by itself. So, what follows is my review of both books, which tell one story.

Extreme Measures is good, but not Flynn’s best. The action unfolds at a slower pace than we’re used to, but it is understandable when you realize he’s developing a larger story and setting things up for Pursuit of Honor. Rapp brings a new character to the forefront, Mike Nash. Nash is tough, but also a family man. I like the family aspect of Nash, as it makes him bit more human than Mitch Rapp. But make no mistake, Rapp is in the book, and as always, he kicks some tail end! Not as much as in some previous novels, but he manages to take care of business. Which leads me to a complaint: there’s just not as much action in these two novels as we’ve seen in Rapp’s past outings. They seem to focus more on the political side of the War on Terror, which isn’t all bad. Just like in real life, liberals and bleeding hearts are concerned about the “rights” of the terrorists, and there is a ton of backstabbing, ego feeding, and outright treason being committed by politicians and their aids. This is a very interesting (and true to life) element of both books, however it is at the expense of some action. In other words, the biggest fight Rapp and Nash wage is on Capitol Hill, not in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, or Afghanistan.  That being said, tension is still present, the books are never boring, and there is still some great action scenes.

One highlight of the books is Chapter 50 of Pursuit of Honor. Without giving too much away, let me just say Mitch Rapp makes a speech before a senate committee that I believe many of us conservatives wish we could make! There’s little secret, after reading these books, that Vince Flynn probably leans to the right in his politics. And that’s okay by me! It’s about time the Right had a literary figure on our side.

Both of these novels are good, but I enjoyed Pursuit of Honor the best. Don’t get me wrong, though, Extreme Measures is not bad by any means. But, be warned, both novels need to be read. In my opinion, they don’t work as standalone stories.

So, while not the best in the series, Extreme Measures and Pursuit of Honor should not disappoint Vince Flynn fans, or those who are just looking for a good, exciting read.

Rush and the Saint Louis Rams

This blog can also be found at www.fowlerforfreedom.com

I have to admit I like college football far better than I do the NFL. And there’s a whole host of reasons why, but I won’t go into that on this blog. However, I do watch the NFL a bit every week. Or should I say I watched the NFL. But as of now I don’t any more. I’m done with them.

I’ve followed Rush Limbaugh’s bid to buy the Saint Louis Rams with a healthy dose of disgust. Not directed towards Limbaugh, but directed towards the bigots that have opposed him at every turn. How dare them! How dare someone try and stop someone else from conducting a business transaction simply because of their personal beliefs. So are we to believe that conservatives can’t be involved in the sports industry. Which, by the way, I have news for all the reporters and others that think they know major league sports: the majority of your fans lean to the right! How many bleeding hearts do you know that actually watch a football game? There are some, as I remember seeing video of even John Lennon showing up in the Monday Night Football booth. And there are always politicians like John Kerry who try to talk football, but I think they do it say “Hey, I’m an average, everyday guy. I watch football.” Anyway, I digress. The point is Limbaugh was shut out because of his personal beliefs.

And how about NFL Commissioner Goodell having the nerve (!) to say Limbaugh’s “divisive” comments would not be tolerated? Did this guy even think before he spoke or did he just say the first ignorant thing that popped in his head? Mr. Goodell you are the one who is divisive! You are the one saying, through your actions, conservatives have no part in the National Football League. Again, you need to do some marketing research and actually look at who your fan base is! You better be careful and look at your bottom line before you go running your mouth off, offending over half of the folks that pay you and your players’ overblown salaries!

All I know is the NFL now has one less fan. And I’m guessing there are others who feel like I do. I agree with the sentiments Rush offered on his program yesterday. This is about conservatives being told they have no place in mainstream society. Well, those who feel this way are wrong. We are mainstream society. And we need to not let this country be hijacked by misguided liberals any longer.

An Apology to Israel

This blog can also be found, along with more, at www.fowlerforfreedom.com.
I would like to apologize to Israel, the government and the people of that nation, for the recent remarks made by President Obama at the United Nations. Unfortunately, Barack is the president of this (once) great nation, so he is our de facto representative to the world. And, as you all know, today he made some rather stupid statements before the General Assembly, basically throwing Israel “under the bus.” I’m not sure if his speech was born out of ignorance or some sort of twisted, perverted world view. Either way, he is wrong, and I wish he would have kept his mouth shut.

While the government of the United States may turn its back on you, the majority of America’s citizens are behind you. I know that doesn’t mean much, when we don’t set the policy directly; however I hope and pray the balance of power will shift in the next few years, and the voting public will oust the ones they unfortunately elected.

Since Barack seems to be intent on apologizing to every nation for the way he perceives America has acted, I’m going to take a page out of his book. I’m offering this apology for the way my “country” has acted today! It’s not one of our finest moments, and I hope we don’t have any more like it. However, at every turn Barack has proven he’s, quite frankly, a moron, so I won’t hold my breath.

In the mean time, my prayers will be with the Nation of Israel for your safety and peace.

Giving In To Putin

I’ve always been blessed with the ability to read people. It’s part of what Christians refer to as discernment. I’ve never been one to be duped by lying politicians (I usually see right through them), crazy religious leaders (I can spot ‘em a mile away), and general people in life with ulterior motives. Now, I’m not bragging, as I know this ability isn’t from me, rather it is given by God. Many Christians possess such a gift, and use it to warn others of danger and evil.

So, allow me to make some observations about someone I’ve never even met: Vladimir Putin. I’ve never, thankfully, met him in person, but I know a lot about his nature. I can read him like a book. The bottom line is Putin is an evil S.O.B. who is completely void of any moral character what so ever. I also predict he’s a sadist (I’d bet everything I own on that). He’s worthless, godless, and the only time he’ll contribute positively to the human race is the day he kills over. Anyone with any amount of discernment should be able to see this. What I just wrote shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone!

So why, then, is Obama and his buddies in power bowing down to ol’ Vladimir? Today, Barack stated that he’s throwing away George Bush’s missile defense system that would have protected the Czech Republic and Poland from Russia in case of attack. And make no mistake about it, Russia will attack. I don’t know when it will be, but as the nation slips more and more back into the empty ideology of communism, they won’t tolerate neighbors that are free.  Plus, add to the mix that Putin is as power hungry as he is evil, and a future invasion by the reemerging USSR seems inevitable.

Obama claims a new mobile defense system will work even better and be more efficient. First of all how the heck do you have a mobile missile defense system? It doesn’t even make sense. Secondly, everyone knows that this is about. Putin raised hell and whined and cried for months about how any permanent defense system would be a threat to Russia and blah, blah, blah. He beat his chest and tried to seem threatening, playing the role of the bully that he is. Today’s announcement by the President is a way of saying, “You win, Vladimir,” without actually saying it. It’s giving in to the demands of the Russian leader, while still trying to sound tough and committed to our allies.

Recently my son started school, and is learning new things on the playground. My son is taller than most of the other kids, and so far he hasn’t been picked on. However, he’s seen some bullies and I’ve talked to him about it. I’ve told him we always stand up to bullies. If they run over you once, they will think it’s a free pass to keep on doing it. In time I’ll teach my son not to start fights, but not to let bullies push him around either. The U.S. needs to have the same policy. In fact, rather than giving into the bullies of the world, we need to make an example of them. I’m not talking about attacking Russia, but I am saying we need to stand up for our interests and the interests of our allies. And screw any nation that doesn’t like it. That’s their problem. If Putin doesn’t like what we’re doing, I say flip him the proverbial bird and move on.

Another thing, before I wrap up. I’ll teach my son to stick up for not only himself, but also the little guy that might need some help. The Czech Republic and Poland need someone to help them. I’m not saying anything bad about them and it’s not a slam to their countries. I’m just saying they’re next to a big, giant bully with a lot more strength. Having someone come beside them would go a long way!

This move by the Obama Administration is a huge mistake! It will come back to bite us. Putin is a rattlesnake. He’s cunning, shrewd, and calculated and waiting to strike.  Obama is naive and unprepared to deal with world leaders. Or maybe Obama just doesn’t care about our allies or actually likes Putin. Who knows? All I know is this is a foreign policy blunder and it will backfire. I just hope when it does it’s not too late for Poland and the Czechs.

Things Are Heating Up in Oklahoma...

This blog can also be found at http://www.fowlerforfreedom.com.

Have you ever heard of the “Christmas Creep”? While it sounds like a monster in a Dr. Seuss book it’s actually very real. Retailers begin rolling out Christmas themed merchandise earlier and earlier it seems. It’s almost as if Thanksgiving has disappeared all together, and we go straight from Halloween to Christmas. I’ll admit it doesn’t bother me that much. While I love Thanksgiving, and it’s still a big deal to me, I LOVE Christmas! I start listening to Christmas music in November. However, that’s not the point of this post. The point is the “Election Creep.” Earlier and earlier, candidates now jump into an election. Take the 2010 for example. Things are already heating up and we’re only nine months into 2009! But, it is what it is, so I’m going to go ahead and comment.

The Governorship is up for grabs in my home state of Oklahoma. Thankfully, Democrat Brad Henry cannot run for a third term. So, politicians with dreams and aspirations of living in that historical mansion off of NE 23rd Street are filing their papers. So far, two Democrats are in the race. First, we have the current Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins. I’ll never vote for a Democrat, and can’t in the primary anyway, so I really don’t have a dog in this hunt. However, I’ve spoken with several state congressmen who have told me Jari is a very nice lady who really means well. She doesn’t appear to be a far left liberal (a professor I had once told me that most Oklahoma Democrats are more in line with New York Republicans). Ms. Askins seems to be a tough political foe, so the second candidate, current Attorney General Drew Edmondson, will have a hard fight. I’m glad. I don’t care for Edmondson. I don’t know the man personally, but the same two who told me about Askins have told me he is a far left liberal. He has done several things (that I won’t go into on this post) that have ticked me off. So, here’s hoping Jari Askins beats the political snot out of him in the primary.

On the Republican side we have (so far) Congresswoman Mary Fallen and state Senator Randy Brogman. I really don’t know much about either of these two, so I will withhold judgment at this time. I don’t know if I’d like either one of them in the State’s highest office. However, I think there’s slim chance Fallen won’t win the primary. It’s almost a slam dunk.

I also predict that Congresswoman Fallen will take the overall job, as well. She’s been around Oklahoma politics for a long time and seems to be well liked. I believe Jari Askins will be her opponent in the General Election, but will ultimately lose. There is enough “Obama backlash” in Oklahoma that will make it hard for any Democrat to take the governorship.

The Congressional races are what I’m really interested in, however. Governors have an important job, but let’s be honest, they are very limited. Now, don’t get me wrong, it shouldn’t be that way. I’m a “states rights” kind of guy, but the truth of the matter is policy is set on the Federal level.

The Fifth Congressional District race should be very, very interesting to watch! Ms. Fallen currently holds the seat, but is resigning to pursue that most coveted state position. One candidate on the Republican side who is trying to fill her vacancy is Kevin Calvey. He ran against her in the primary back in 2006 I believe (my memory fails me right now…with the House elections rolling around every two years they all sort of run together). Now that Fallen is leaving, he’s giving it another try. Most of what I know about him I like, and he seems like he’d make a fine Congressman. He has experience as he is a former state legislator.

Another possibility who recently announced his candidacy is James Lankford. James served for years in a position with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, working in the Student Ministries department. Anyone who can work with teen-agers for years shows they are a strong individual who can endure numerous hardships! Teen-agers seem a bit trying to me, even more so than Congress! I don’t know James personally, although I have met him on a few brief occasions. He seemed like a nice, capable guy. I know several people involved in Southern Baptist ministry who speak very highly of Mr. Lankford. But, as of now, I’m not sure where he stands on the issues. I believe he just announced his candidacy, and I can’t find an official campaign site other than a Facebook profile. There may be other candidates trying for the seat, but I think Calvey and Lankford will be the ones to beat in the primary. So, what’s my prediction? Calvey has experience, and is a very polished speaker. He’s making the rounds to all the right places (Tea Parties, etc), and I’ve heard him on local talk radio. Having run for this seat before, he also has some name recognition. On the other hand, James Lankford will have a very strong following with the Southern Baptist crowd. That is a big group in the State of Oklahoma! He will likely appeal to faith based voters of other denominations as well. So, he has name recognition going for him, too. I’m not ready to give my prediction on this one yet, but it will be a tight race to watch.

I don’t live in the Fifth District, however, so my real interest is the Fourth. Tom Cole is the Republican congressman who currently holds the seat. I believe he’s running for reelection. However, in a rare case, he’s being challenged in the primary by R.J. Harris. Harris isn’t a career politician, which Mr. Cole seems to be. I applaud Mr. Harris because he has the guts to stand up against a fairly popular sitting congressman! R.J. seems to be upset over the same things that have made me upset: Congressman Cole’s support for some of the “bail-out” packages, Obama’s GIVE Act, and several other horrible pieces of legislation. For one who claims to be a conservative, Tom Cole just doesn’t make the grade. This is nothing personal. I’m sure he’s a very nice man who means well. However, being a nice guy isn’t what we need. We need someone who will stand up for the Constitution! R.J. Harris, I believe, would! So, he’ll be getting my vote in the primary.

Enough people are waking up and crying for real change, which might give Harris the boost he needs. It’s a tough job to go against a sitting elected official, and Harris doesn’t seem to be getting the recognition in the media he deserves.  It’s refreshing that there is finally a real alternative being offered for those who truly want change!

I’m sure it will be an interesting political season in the days ahead. I’m not really sure how to describe my political beliefs. Certainly conservative. I’m probably best described as a “paleo-conservative who borderlines on libertarianism,” if that makes any sense. I’m just glad that in my district there is finally someone with my beliefs to actually vote for!

Color of Change Showing Their True Colors

This blog can also be found, along with more, at www.fowlerforfreedom.com!

Censorship is a scary thing. Most who follow the news have probably heard that an organization called “colorofchange.org” is trying to censor Glenn Beck simply because he voiced his belief that President Obama is a racist. That’s it. That’s all Glenn said. He has an opinion. But, because his opinion differs from their organization, Color of Change wants to silence him.

Before we dig deeper into just how wrong this organization is, let me expound on a couple of theories I have. First of all, its possible Color of Change has some help here. Some of the liberals in power want to silence Glenn because he seems to be leading a movement. I know Rush is the most listened to in talk radio, but Glenn is sort of the figurehead of opposition right now to Obama, the Congress, and government in general. He started the 9/12 Project, has been highly supportive of the Tea Party movement, and has written the dead on best seller Common Sense. It wouldn’t surprise me if some in Washington would work through a proxy organization to try and censor Mr. Beck.

Secondly, this is probably an attempt for Color of Change to get recognized. Be honest, before this controversy with Glenn, have you ever heard of this organization? They’re a small fish in a really big pond. They’re minor players trying to get into the big leagues. This is pretty standard for some of these small time groups to generate controversy in order to make headlines. And, I have to admit, it seems to be working for them (although a year from now no one will remember them unless they find a way to keep their momentum going).

Here’s what the group’s Executive Director James Rucker told Newsmax:

“"It's preposterous and absurd. It's insulting to black Americans, and it corrupts honest debate. Anyone who uses such a platform to spew such vitriol, whether Glenn Beck or anyone else, has no place on the air, and we at Color Of Change would use every resource available to us to remove corporate sponsorship from their platform."

I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, how is it insulting to black Americans to call Obama a racist? If you make such a claim, you better be able to back it up! So far, Mr. Rucker has not. I’ll say David Duke is a racist. He’s a former Klan leader, he repeatedly makes ignorant, racist statements, and he’s an overall moron. He’s also white. So, by saying he’s a racist am I offending white Americans?  Do I get offended when other’s say David Duke is a racist? Absolutely not. So, how is it insulting to black Americans to claim a guy who happens to be black is a racist? Let’s look at another example. When George W. Bush was called a racist (as he was called repeatedly) did all white people say, “That’s so offensive?” No. I didn’t care. People can think what they want to think and say what they want to say. It doesn’t have any impact on my life whatsoever.

The funniest part of Mr. Rucker’s statement is the line “it corrupts honest debate.” James, I have news for you, if you’re touting censorship and trying to silence someone, you have no room to talk about “honest debate!” Your credibility is gone. You are the one trying to corrupt the debate and dialogue by trying to shut down someone just because they have an opposing view! How ridiculous can you get?  I disagree with Color of Change, but I would never dream of trying to silence them.

These groups, like Color of Change, show just how weak they are when the pull stunts like this. Rather than try and answer Glenn Beck and show how Obama is not a racist, they just try to silence him. This tells me they know they have no ammunition for an honest debate. My world view is so grounded in truth and so solid that what people say has no bearing on my beliefs. I won’t try to silence anyone. I may discuss and debate, but never silence. Why? Because I don’t feel threatened in any way. I have the truth on my side, and truth has nothing to fear. Color of Change is showing they are intimidated by the opposition. So they won’t engage anyone, they’ll just try to bully and censor.

I’m going to have to wrap up this post because my head is about to explode, or I’m going to take up drinking. Either way, it’s won’t be good. But let me ask one more question. Why is it only African American’s can throw the accusation of racism around? Why is it not offensive when quasi “reverends” like Al Sharpton (who I’ve literally never heard even mention Jesus, but that’s for a different post) and Jesse Jackson call everyone and their grandmother a racist, but if a white guy calls a black guy racist it’s offensive and insulting? Racism isn’t limited to one group of people. It’s a condition that is seen among whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Native Americans. Bottom line: it’s wrong regardless of your color of skin. And if someone shows racist tendencies, it’s okay to call them out for it. Glenn Beck has the right to say what he said. Color of Change has the right to protest him. And I have the right to tell Color of Change just how wrong they are.

Standing Up For Glenn

The “r word” gets thrown around a lot! Especially on the Left. Conservatives have been called racist for years. Everyone knows why, too. It’s a classic liberal tactic. It’s all about changing the subject. For example, when the Tea Parties first came about, last April, many liberals didn’t want to admit that the majority of Americans are fed up with an overblown government. So, all of the sudden, the new byline was that the protests were all about racism. These redneck, backwoods white people were all upset that a black guy was in the White House. The press really carried stories like this. Uninformed, or just plain deceitful, celebrities made the rounds saying this junk.

Now, liberals are upset that Barack is being called a racist. It’s infuriating them, so in typical liberal fashion, they’re trying to silence the opposing view point. It’s happening to Glenn Beck. Some organization I’ve never heard of, colorofchange.org, is trying to get companies to pull the plug on advertising on Glenn’s Fox News program. Isn’t it ironic that the Left in this country, those who claim to be for free speech and honest debate, are the biggest promoters of censorship? Some may say, “They’re not trying to censor him, they’re trying to drive advertisers away.” Same dang thing. If a show looses it advertisers it is no longer commercially viable. Then, we all know what happens, the network pulls the plug. Some big advertisers, like Wal-Mart and Clorox, have already dropped out of Glenn’s show! This is nothing more than back door censorship. I know, it’s not the Government doing it, but I’d be very curious to know if this “Color of Change” organization receives any federal funding. Wait, what am I saying?  That’s a crazy thought! The Government wouldn’t fund people to do their dirty work, that’s just ridiculous.

ACORN. ‘Nuff said.

So here’s my question to all the groups like Color of Change: where were you when conservatives were being called racist? If it’s so offensive, why didn’t you stick up for that group? Oh wait; maybe you were the ones throwing out the accusations. Newsmax.com is running a story showing the group sells a t-shirt that says, “Kanye Was Right.” You may not remember, but Kanye West is the rapper who so ignorantly stated, on live television, that George Bush wasn’t responding to Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans (I clarify New Orleans because many seem to forget it hit other areas too, and other people had their lives changed, not just the folks in the Big Easy) fast enough because many of them were African American. He went on to say G.W. was giving permission for the National Guard to shoot black people. (If you’ve never seen the video of this, it’s very funny…unintentionally funny, but hilarious none the less. I’m sure YouTube has it up. The look on actor Mike Meyers face says it all.) On top of all this, so many of the liberals who are acting outraged by Glenn’s (and Rush’s, for that matter) recent accusations of racism on the part of the Left are the very ones who have thrown the accusation around the most in the past! But, for some reason, when the tables are turned, it’s offensive.

So I don’t know who is worse. This Color of Change group or the advertisers who are backing out of Glenn’s show, and acting like cowards. Seriously, do they really think this Color of Change group can do anything? Have any of us even heard of them before this mess? But the corporations know that soon the mainstream media will get wind of this, and they will stand with Color of Change and pressure these companies into bailing out. I just hope Fox News defends Glenn and keeps him on the air. I also hope Color of Change will issue some sort of statement trying to defend their actions, as I would enjoy picking it apart and tearing them up. It wouldn’t be hard. They have shown their true colors by this attempt to censor someone who happens to offer an opposing view. If they really believe what Glenn has said is any worse than what their buddies on the left have been saying for years, then they are ignorant! And their ignorance has nothing to do with their ethnicity. It has everything to do with them being liberal

The Assault on Free Speech

Note: This blog can also be found, along with more info, at www.fowlerforfreedom.com.

It looks like free speech is under assault in Texas, of all places. A guy named Quanell X, leader of the “New Black Panther Party” got upset because a billboard, paid for and created by Claver Kamau-Imani, claimed, “Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican.” Kamau-Imani is a pastor, and the founder of a group called “Raging Republicans.” Apparently, this is a conservative African American group that is challenging the notion that if you’re black you have to be Democrat.

Now, I disagree with Mr. Kamau-Imani’s take on the late Dr. King. I’ve never seen any evidence to suggest the civil rights leader was affiliated with the GOP. But, that’s not important. What I find troubling about this story is the billboard has been removed after…um… Mr. X (?) led a protest. That’s right. The sign company, SignAd, removed the billboard twenty days before its scheduled run concluded. This whole ordeal has led me to ask a number of questions.

What has happened to the notion of free speech? What if the shoe had been on the other foot? What if Quanell X had run an ad saying Dr. King was a Democrat? If Kamau-Imani complained and protested would the spineless sign company have removed that board?

Does Quanell X, who claims to be a civil rights crusader, only believe in rights for a certain portion of the population? Is it a case of, “I’ll fight for your rights as long as you believe like me?” Right now, it looks like it. I’ve yet to see evidence that points otherwise. In fact, Quanell X stated, according to a story on Foxnews.com, “he was pleased that he had succeeded in getting the billboard removed.” Well, I guess one better not voice an opposing opinion down in Quanell X’s region (Houston,). For a civil rights leader this seems a bit hypocritical.

Just for the record, I am for free speech. That means I believe Quanell X has the right to protest this billboard, and say whatever he wants. But, Kamau-Imani has the right to run his billboard and say whatever he wants as well. This billboard may have been controversial, but hardly obscene.  There was no ground for removal. The real villain here seems to be SignAd. They caved to the pressure and appeased the politically correct crowd.

But, let’s go back to Quanell X’s hypocrisy for a moment. In the same story he stated the Republican Party has “racist elements.” I’m sure there are racist Republicans, as there are racist Democrats (Senator Byrd the former Klan member quickly comes to mind). However, if we’re going to point fingers here, let’s not forget the Black Panthers. White people aren’t the only ones who can be racist, Quanell. Not by a long shot.

At Least Ginsburg Finally Admitted What Abortion is About

Note: Townhall would not publish this blog unless a certain word in Margaret Sanger's quote was censored.

Why is no one talking about Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s recent quote on Roe v. Wade? Here’s what the Supreme Court Justice said:

Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion. Which some people felt would risk coercing women into having abortions when they didn’t really want them. But when the court decided McRae, the case came out the other way. And then I realized that my perception of it had been altogether wrong.”

So, back to my original question, why is no one talking about this? A Supreme Court justice admitted abortion is about controlling certain segments of the population! Now, in all fairness to Ms. Ginsburg, she was not on the High Court at the time of the horribly decided Roe ruling. However, time and time again, she has voted to uphold the procedure, even striking down Nebraska’s ban on partial birth abortion. I don’t need to really go down this road, as anyone who knows anything about the Court knows Ginsburg is probably the justice farthest to the left. She is the most liberal judge.

One reason this quote is being passed over, I think, is because the abortion movement, since it’s conception (pardon the pun) has had roots in the population control movement. This is not really something they probably care to admit. Being in the same ideological camp as the Third Reich really isn’t good PR. But, let’s take Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, for example. She was all about trying to limit the existence of certain people. Here are some quotes from the one the pro-choice crowd lifts up as a hero.

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the N*gro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the N*gro population. and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

Silly rebellious coloreds, questioning what white people like Margaret Sanger and others want to enforce upon them. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. But Sanger was not. She really said the above statement, and many more like it. She believed that abortion was the only way to curb the growth of the African American population. But, let’s move on to some other quotes.

"Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race."

"Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need ... We must prevent multiplication of this bad stock."

"Eugenics is … the most adequate and thorough avenue to the solution of racial, political and social problems.”

Wow, slow down there, Mrs. Hitler. Some of these statements would embarrass Klan members, for goodness’ sake. There are actually many, many, many more quotes I could use, but I would be writing all day. But, please, if you are one who blindly accepts abortion and the arguments of the pro-choice organizations, like Ms. Sanger’s Planned Parenthood, look into all this yourself. Do some research. Form your own opinions and don’t just approve of something because your professors, parents, teachers, clergy, or whoever else, say you should. Certainly don’t just take my word for it. Investigate the history of this violent movement and be open to what the truth reveals.

And, Christians, let’s pray for an end to abortion. Not in a casual, flippant way. But, let’s get serious and stand up against what is evil, and for what is good (or Who is good, I should say). The above quotes from Sanger reveal the same sort of thinking Adolph Hitler had. It’s a philosophy that devalues human life and believes some sectors of the population aren’t “pure” enough to exist. It’s a mindset that believes undesirable social ills can be eliminated by eliminating “undesirable” people. However, it ignores the truth that to God, there is no such thing as an undesirable person.

Just some things to think about.

Tom Coburn and the Office Of Unborn Children's Health

Note: This blog is also at my homepage, www.fowlerforfreedom.com!

Occasionally I like to check up on the abortion rights crowd. Yes, there are a lot of really obnoxious, masculine women who are very angry in that group. I mean, come one, ladies, and lighten up a bit. Anyway, most of them probably won’t have to worry about unwanted pregnancies because I doubt there are too many men just dying to hop in the sack with them. But, that’s neither here nor there.

In my recent monitoring of the twisted, pro-choice culture, I came across something that no one (besides the angry, masculine women) is talking about. One of my senators, Tom Coburn, marked up the “Affordable Health Choices Act,” and put in a provision that would create the “Office of Unborn Children’s Health.” And of course, the pro-choice crowd is fuming made about it. But, then again, they’re always mad about something, so no big shock there. I wasn’t able to find out exactly what the proposed Office would do, but the name itself says a lot!

A blogger by the name of “Molly” on NARAL’s website said this about Coburn, “Sen. Coburn of Oklahoma is one of the most unrelentingly anti-choice members of Congress.”

Thanks for complementing my senator, Molly.

I think I’ll call Senator Coburn’s office and voice my appreciation for him. He is going out of his way to stand up for every U.S. citizen, including the unborn! In fact, he’s written nine amendments to the Health Care Bill. He has my approval.

Besides, no matter how stupid the liberals think the “Office of Unborn Children’s Health” is, it’s no worse than “Office of the President Elect.”

The Insensitivity of Al Gore

Note: This blog is also up at my site www.fowlerforfreedom.com!

In a speech today at Oxford University, former Vice-President Al Gore said global warming is just as much a threat to the world as the Third Reich was, and every bit as dangerous as Hitler. No, I’m not kidding, he really said that.  And honestly, I don’t even know where to begin on this one. First of all, it’s insensitive. Millions of people met their deaths thanks to the dictator who altered the course of history for almost every nation. He was evil personified. To this day there are still people who wear the scars caused by the pain of losing loved ones to the insane leader.

It’s also a slap in the face to the brave men who took on the Nazi regime. I have a lot of respect for the “Greatest Generation.” Those guys answered the call to fight evil, and due to their sacrifice, we’re not speaking German today and countless people around the globe are free.

But I’m also offended because I think Al Gore told an outright lie. There is no concrete proof global warming even exists!

Let’s go back to the late 1980’s. It was a simpler time of Reagan, M.C. Hammer, good Saturday morning cartoons, M.C. Hammer’s bad hair, economic prosperity, and M.C. Hammer’s pants. It was also the time I was in elementary school. All of the sudden my science teachers were all in a tizzy (did I really just write the word tizzy?) about how we had to save the oceans! Posters went up all around the school, celebrities hit the talk show circuit, and benefit concerts were held. I was told things like, “If we don’t act now, by the time you’re an adult the oceans will be ruined. What if they are even gone?!”

Well, I’m an adult now, and the oceans seem to be all there. I live in landlocked Oklahoma, but I’ve never had friends return from trips to the West Coast and say, “The trip was nice. Except the whole ocean thing. It was gone.” In fact, the oceans seem to be in decent shape and usable. I think they’re pretty much the same old oceans they were twenty years ago.

My point is they were wrong about the oceans and I think they’re wrong about global warming. But, if they admitted the whole thing was a hoax then what would they have to scare school children with? Also, what excuse would they have to pass the largest tax hike in the history of this nation? Also, there are a lot of people who stand to make a lot of money if Obama’s crazy “cap and trade” scheme goes into law. Like Al Gore who is heavily invested in “green initiatives” and who has made far more money off his crazy environments notions than he ever did in politics. As is the case with most pieces of legislation, look at who stands to profit from it and that will tell you what’s really going on.

Besides, without global warming, there wouldn’t be a good excuse for a bunch of musicians I’ve never heard of to get together for benefit concerts. And that would just be sad.

A List of Grievances

Please Note: This blog can also be found, along with other info and news, at my new site www.fowlerforfreedom.com

I can’t help but gripe about Obama. I know, I know, he’s the President of these United States and he deserves respect and…blah, blah, blah. But it's tough. I don’t even think of him as “my president.” When I voice these feelings some ask, “What has he ever done to you? Why do you dislike him so much?” So, I thought it would be helpful to make a list. Now, keep in mind, please, that this is not a complete list. I’m sure there are items that I’ve overlooked, and there will be many future items to add (unfortunately). But, here is the partial list of grievances against Fuhrer Obama.
·         The first one goes back to when he was just a state senator in Illinois (so it really doesn’t go back too far). He spoke out in 2001 and 2002 against the Infants Born Alive Protection Act (granting full rights to babies who survive abortions). In 2003 he killed the Act in committee. I could stop right there and that would be enough, but there’s more.
·         His excessive apologizing to the rest of the world is insulting to Americans. He has called all of us arrogant (not to mention the fact that his Attorney General has said we are a “nation of cowards”).
·         He fired the CEO of a private company. Man, I had a hard time even writing that. First of all, he had no authority to do it, but no one questioned him or stood up to him (that’s how bullies thrive). So, for the first time (that we know of) an American President ousted the director of a company and basically had a lackey appointed in his place.
·         Obama is actually giving more power to the Federal Reserve. Never mind the fact that the unconstitutional organization is partly to blame for the current financial crisis, Obama is giving them more control and authority. This leads us to the next grievence.
·         Obama is printing money like it’s going out of style! Wait until massive inflation hits. Then maybe more Americans will wake up and see why this is a horrible idea.
·         Obama will bring back the “Fairness Doctrine” (which is anything but). Barack can’t stand the fact that conservatives in talk radio wield such a big stick. Every since he’s taken office with a Democrat controlled House and Senate, talk of the crazy, Gestapo “Doctrine” has been all over the place. He may not do it directly, and there’s a good chance it won’t be called the “Fairness Doctrine,” but the assault on free speech has already begun.
·         He controls the press! The media hounds loved Clinton. However, I can’t remember a time when the so called “watchdogs of government” were so blatantly in the tank for a president. What’s funny is Obama is so concerned about his image and what gets out he even keeps his cult like followers in the media on a short leash. He controls what photos get out, who is allowed in various press conferences, and even plants questions using fake reporters!
·         Cap and trade. Enough said right there, but I’ll elaborate a bit. It’s no business of the government or anyone else how “energy efficient” my home is, what I keep my thermostat set at, or anything else like that. If I want to drive a gas guzzling SUV (which I do) then I’m going to drive one. Which reminds me, gas is going to shoot sky high when this cap and trade nonsense becomes law, not to mention the cost of heating and cooling our homes. There’s no better way to kill off an already suffering economy than to enact the disastrous policy we call “cap and trade.” But hey, it’s for the environment. I guess I just don’t care about mother earth. Man, I’m a hate monger!
·         Two words: Sonia Sotomayor. I’ve got news for all the liberals: it’s not just white men who can be racist and sexist, as this Latino woman fully proves.
·         Government bail-outs were wrong under George W. Bush, and they’re wrong under Barack Hussein Obama. It’s not right for the hard earned tax dollars of hard working Americans to be stolen and given to those who have been fiscally irresponsible!
·         Thanks to the bail-outs, Obama and the United States Government now own the controlling portions of several U.S. businesses. If that’s not socialism, I don’t know what is. Obama has said, “I have no desire to run these companies.” Then stop firing executives.
Like I stated above, this is by no means a finished list. I’m sure I’ve left out numerous things. Trying to figure out all Obama has done wrong is tough. There’s just so much! Soon I’ll be able to add “health care” to the list. But, in the mean time, send me your items and let’s compile this list together.

Michael Steele Can Stay In the GOP...I'm Leaving

I’ve been fed up with the Republican Party for some time now. Anyone who reads my posts knows it’s no secret. Recent comments made by RNC chairman Michael Steele illustrate why.

The following quotes are taken from the Fox News Website.

"This is a no-brainer," (in regards to moderating the Republican Party) Steele told FOX News. "I'm a student of multiplication and addition, and not subtraction and division. My focus is on building a party that reaches across the board."

This quote pretty much says it all! This is the direction the party is moving…to the middle! The troubled marriage between conservatives and Republicans should be seen as officially over! In fact, it’s time for an official divorce. Conservatives need to leave the party. I am. But why on Earth does Steele think moving to the middle will attract votes? Did it work during the last election? All those who thought, “McCain’s who we need! He reaches across the aisle,” were wrong! Listen, there is no such thing as the middle. There’s those who favor big government, and those who oppose it. It’s  an “either or” thing. One or the other. McCain and those in the party like him are nothing more than Democrats who happen to be a little more conservative on a few social issues. That’s it.

"I want a party that speaks to people. The idea that we only narrowly speak to one segment of the population is boneheaded and it's not reflective of the history of this party," Steele said. "How is kicking Colin Powell out or kicking Dick Cheney out or Rush Limbaugh in going to feed a child who's hungry tonight?"

I don’t even know where to start on this quote. First of all, Colin Powell has left on his own accord. No one kicked him out. And, like Arlen Specter, his departure was long overdue. But, and I’m going to sound harsh on this one, the RNC shouldn’t be in the business of feeding hungry children! The Federal Government shouldn’t even be in the business of feeding children. I’m not going to go into the whole welfare debate right now. Let me just say that as a conservative I’m not in favor of people starving or children going without basic needs. I know care of the poor is not a function of the government, however, but rather a function of the Church and other private groups. But, Steele’s statement once again shows he’s coming from a big government, the “feds can fix everything” mindset. If you have that mindset, and you agree with Steele, than why the heck don’t you just become a Democrat?

Conservatives need to wake up. Stop supporting a party that doesn’t support you. Stop investing time and effort into something that is useless. I know some conservatives say, “We’re not being used by the Republican Party, we’re using them to advance our agenda.” Really? How’s that theory working out for you? Because looking at the party I see that conservatives are being pushed out more and more. We’re not in control and let’s stop kidding ourselves. The RNC wants to keep us around as their base for when they need us, and then lock us in the bedroom as if we’re some embarrassing, shameful relative the rest of the time. Conservatives, it’s time we get with the program and get the heck out of the RNC.

Leaving the GOP

More and more it becomes increasingly evident that the Republican Party has left me behind. I guess the most recent occurrence to make me reflect on this sad turn of events is the handling by many in the party of Alren Specter. I’m not upset that he decided to leave the GOP. It was long overdue if you ask me! I’m upset that many Republicans are upset that he left. Arlen has been a big government Democrat the whole time, who only rode into office by sticking an “R” beside his name on the ballot to cash in on the popularity of then president Ronald Reagan. He continually voted with the liberals, and has never shown one ounce of conservatism.  So, to him I say good riddance, and take a few with you. I thought it would be a day of celebration upon hearing of his departure. Instead, I heard Republican leadership lament the fact that he bolted. Some said, “We need a balanced Party! We need moderates like Specter to appeal to a broad base. We need a ‘big tent’ party.” That’s when I realized that maybe it’s time for me to leave the GOP as well, only for entirely different reasons than the Senator from Pennsylvania.

Once upon a time, the Republican Party was a haven for those disenfranchised with a growing federal government. True, we’ve had some “big state” types in the party from time to time. While Teddy Roosevelt is a colorful figure whom I admire (his courage with the Rough Riders is legendary) the truth is he was a big government progressive who increased government oversight and regulation. Not very conservative. Eisenhower was decent, but again, he was far more moderate than he was conservative (although he was a man of great integrity who has my admiration). Nixon should have been a Democrat, as he tended to govern like one more often than not. George H.W. Bush was a moderate, as well. And (this will tick liberals off) so was George W. Bush. In fact, to sum up my views on Bush, I’ll borrow from Rush Limbaugh. “He is a good man, who’s conservative on some things, but he’s not a true conservative.” Fiscal liberals should have loved Bush; he spent more money than most Dems!

But we’ve had some bright spots along the way, too. Ohio Senator Robert Taft, and his leadership of the “Conservative Coalition,” was excellent as a voice of opposition to the horrific policy  called “the New Deal.” (In my opinion, Robert Taft is a mostly forgotten figure in modern conservatism who should be looked at as an example of a true, consistent conservative.) We’ve also seen the likes of Barry Goldwater. While I don’t agree with all of his positions, he was the one who brought conservatism back to the forefront. He also paved the way for Ronald Wilson Reagan. Mr. Reagan didn’t get everything right (no one ever will), but he, like Goldwater, was heavily influenced by the libertarian philosophy of limited government, increased freedoms, and more personal responsibility. These are principles that the GOP seems to have forgotten.

In short, the Republicans have become a big government party. They may advocate spending your tax dollars on different programs, but in the end they’re still blowing our hard earned money! They may champion a select few personal freedoms, but they too have sowed the seeds of a “big brother” state. They may talk about making some changes to the welfare system, Department of Education, and other big government programs but they would never dare call for their abolishment. So, where does a libertarian leaning conservative like myself go? It goes without saying that I’d never find a home in the Democrat Party. The once strong party that championed a limited federal government and more rights for the States is now the party growing our already goliath size system every chance it gets. And, as I’ve noted, the Republicans are hot on their heels. So, if I leave the GOP, I guess I’ll be “homeless.”  However, I’m open to suggestions. And one thing is for sure; I may leave the GOP, but I’ll never leave my conservative values.
