Color of Change Showing Their True Colors

Censorship is a scary thing. Most who follow the news have probably heard that an organization called “colorofchange.org” is trying to censor Glenn Beck simply because he voiced his belief that President Obama is a racist. That’s it. That’s all Glenn said. He has an opinion. But, because his opinion differs from their organization, Color of Change wants to silence him.

Before we dig deeper into just how wrong this organization is, let me expound on a couple of theories I have. First of all, its possible Color of Change has some help here. Some of the liberals in power want to silence Glenn because he seems to be leading a movement. I know Rush is the most listened to in talk radio, but Glenn is sort of the figurehead of opposition right now to Obama, the Congress, and government in general. He started the 9/12 Project, has been highly supportive of the Tea Party movement, and has written the dead on best seller Common Sense. It wouldn’t surprise me if some in Washington would work through a proxy organization to try and censor Mr. Beck.

Secondly, this is probably an attempt for Color of Change to get recognized. Be honest, before this controversy with Glenn, have you ever heard of this organization? They’re a small fish in a really big pond. They’re minor players trying to get into the big leagues. This is pretty standard for some of these small time groups to generate controversy in order to make headlines. And, I have to admit, it seems to be working for them (although a year from now no one will remember them unless they find a way to keep their momentum going).

Here’s what the group’s Executive Director James Rucker told Newsmax:

“"It's preposterous and absurd. It's insulting to black Americans, and it corrupts honest debate. Anyone who uses such a platform to spew such vitriol, whether Glenn Beck or anyone else, has no place on the air, and we at Color Of Change would use every resource available to us to remove corporate sponsorship from their platform."

I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, how is it insulting to black Americans to call Obama a racist? If you make such a claim, you better be able to back it up! So far, Mr. Rucker has not. I’ll say David Duke is a racist. He’s a former Klan leader, he repeatedly makes ignorant, racist statements, and he’s an overall moron. He’s also white. So, by saying he’s a racist am I offending white Americans?  Do I get offended when other’s say David Duke is a racist? Absolutely not. So, how is it insulting to black Americans to claim a guy who happens to be black is a racist? Let’s look at another example. When George W. Bush was called a racist (as he was called repeatedly) did all white people say, “That’s so offensive?” No. I didn’t care. People can think what they want to think and say what they want to say. It doesn’t have any impact on my life whatsoever.

The funniest part of Mr. Rucker’s statement is the line “it corrupts honest debate.” James, I have news for you, if you’re touting censorship and trying to silence someone, you have no room to talk about “honest debate!” Your credibility is gone. You are the one trying to corrupt the debate and dialogue by trying to shut down someone just because they have an opposing view! How ridiculous can you get?  I disagree with Color of Change, but I would never dream of trying to silence them.

These groups, like Color of Change, show just how weak they are when the pull stunts like this. Rather than try and answer Glenn Beck and show how Obama is not a racist, they just try to silence him. This tells me they know they have no ammunition for an honest debate. My world view is so grounded in truth and so solid that what people say has no bearing on my beliefs. I won’t try to silence anyone. I may discuss and debate, but never silence. Why? Because I don’t feel threatened in any way. I have the truth on my side, and truth has nothing to fear. Color of Change is showing they are intimidated by the opposition. So they won’t engage anyone, they’ll just try to bully and censor.

I’m going to have to wrap up this post because my head is about to explode, or I’m going to take up drinking. Either way, it’s won’t be good. But let me ask one more question. Why is it only African American’s can throw the accusation of racism around? Why is it not offensive when quasi “reverends” like Al Sharpton (who I’ve literally never heard even mention Jesus, but that’s for a different post) and Jesse Jackson call everyone and their grandmother a racist, but if a white guy calls a black guy racist it’s offensive and insulting? Racism isn’t limited to one group of people. It’s a condition that is seen among whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Native Americans. Bottom line: it’s wrong regardless of your color of skin. And if someone shows racist tendencies, it’s okay to call them out for it. Glenn Beck has the right to say what he said. Color of Change has the right to protest him. And I have the right to tell Color of Change just how wrong they are.

Standing Up For Glenn

The “r word” gets thrown around a lot! Especially on the Left. Conservatives have been called racist for years. Everyone knows why, too. It’s a classic liberal tactic. It’s all about changing the subject. For example, when the Tea Parties first came about, last April, many liberals didn’t want to admit that the majority of Americans are fed up with an overblown government. So, all of the sudden, the new byline was that the protests were all about racism. These redneck, backwoods white people were all upset that a black guy was in the White House. The press really carried stories like this. Uninformed, or just plain deceitful, celebrities made the rounds saying this junk.

Now, liberals are upset that Barack is being called a racist. It’s infuriating them, so in typical liberal fashion, they’re trying to silence the opposing view point. It’s happening to Glenn Beck. Some organization I’ve never heard of, colorofchange.org, is trying to get companies to pull the plug on advertising on Glenn’s Fox News program. Isn’t it ironic that the Left in this country, those who claim to be for free speech and honest debate, are the biggest promoters of censorship? Some may say, “They’re not trying to censor him, they’re trying to drive advertisers away.” Same dang thing. If a show looses it advertisers it is no longer commercially viable. Then, we all know what happens, the network pulls the plug. Some big advertisers, like Wal-Mart and Clorox, have already dropped out of Glenn’s show! This is nothing more than back door censorship. I know, it’s not the Government doing it, but I’d be very curious to know if this “Color of Change” organization receives any federal funding. Wait, what am I saying?  That’s a crazy thought! The Government wouldn’t fund people to do their dirty work, that’s just ridiculous.

ACORN. ‘Nuff said.

So here’s my question to all the groups like Color of Change: where were you when conservatives were being called racist? If it’s so offensive, why didn’t you stick up for that group? Oh wait; maybe you were the ones throwing out the accusations. Newsmax.com is running a story showing the group sells a t-shirt that says, “Kanye Was Right.” You may not remember, but Kanye West is the rapper who so ignorantly stated, on live television, that George Bush wasn’t responding to Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans (I clarify New Orleans because many seem to forget it hit other areas too, and other people had their lives changed, not just the folks in the Big Easy) fast enough because many of them were African American. He went on to say G.W. was giving permission for the National Guard to shoot black people. (If you’ve never seen the video of this, it’s very funny…unintentionally funny, but hilarious none the less. I’m sure YouTube has it up. The look on actor Mike Meyers face says it all.) On top of all this, so many of the liberals who are acting outraged by Glenn’s (and Rush’s, for that matter) recent accusations of racism on the part of the Left are the very ones who have thrown the accusation around the most in the past! But, for some reason, when the tables are turned, it’s offensive.

So I don’t know who is worse. This Color of Change group or the advertisers who are backing out of Glenn’s show, and acting like cowards. Seriously, do they really think this Color of Change group can do anything? Have any of us even heard of them before this mess? But the corporations know that soon the mainstream media will get wind of this, and they will stand with Color of Change and pressure these companies into bailing out. I just hope Fox News defends Glenn and keeps him on the air. I also hope Color of Change will issue some sort of statement trying to defend their actions, as I would enjoy picking it apart and tearing them up. It wouldn’t be hard. They have shown their true colors by this attempt to censor someone who happens to offer an opposing view. If they really believe what Glenn has said is any worse than what their buddies on the left have been saying for years, then they are ignorant! And their ignorance has nothing to do with their ethnicity. It has everything to do with them being liberal

What In The World Is Wrong With Michael Steele and the Republicans?!

What in the world is wrong with Michael Steele? In a recent interview with GQ magazine, he made the comment that women have the right to choose an abortion, and he is against a Federal ban on the procedure. Is he just trying to alienate real conservatives? Because it really seems he’s going out of his way to do so. No wonder the unofficial head of the Conservative Movement is a radio host, not the leader of the GOP.

And while I’m asking what is wrong with Michael Steele, let me ask what in the world is wrong with the Republican Party? They elect people like Michael Steele to lead the Party, there is no clear conservative voice among the elected Republican office holders, and they elected a guy like John McCain as their presidential nominee! It’s as if the people controlling the party (who obviously aren’t real conservatives) haven’t figured out that playing the “moderate card” doesn’t work! Liberals will never like you. It doesn’t matter how far to the center or left you move, liberals will never embrace you. So don’t even try. Just be the mouthiest conservatives you can be. Be proud of your values and your belief in limited government and more personal responsibility. Don’t just be “Liberal Lite.” But, it appears as if the ones in control have made up their minds, and guys like me are thinking maybe we need to get out. Maybe we need to join another party, or start another party.

Case in point: the last presidential election. Who in the world voted for John McCain in the primaries and why? Some said, “He’s the most electable.” Well, first of all, that wasn’t true. And I saw that to be the case all along. Secondly, never sell out your values and principles to win an election! That kind of thinking is what got us into the mess the GOP is in now. As long as we are the party defined by John McCain and Michael Steele and all the other neo-cons, we’re going to be the party that loses!

There is hope, however. There is a growing movement of true conservatives who are becoming increasingly disenfranchised. I am encouraged by Glenn Beck’s “We Surround Them” campaign he’s launching tonight on his television program. Maybe it will be the spark that lights the conservative fire. I don’t know. But, at least it’s encouraging. And, as I pointed out on my last post, Obama is doing a lot to wake up conservatives! Thanks for the help, buddy.

But, in the mean time, I’ll contemplate leaving the RNC and striking out with another party, or starting my own, or who knows. I just want to associate with people who actually get it, and not gutless, spineless Republicans who don’t have a clue.
